Driver leaves scene after collision with pole knocks out power

SEQUIM — An alleged hit-and-run collision with a utility pole knocked out power to a neighborhood west of Sequim for about six hours into Monday morning.

A driver of a 2013 Chevy Suburban left the roadway while going east on U.S. Highway 101 at about 11 p.m. Sunday at the intersection with Kitchen-Dick Road at milepost 260, according to a State Patrol report.

The Suburban hit a pole and came to rest off the road, the report said.

The driver fled the scene, according to the State Patrol. The report stated that State Patrol was advised at 7:45 a.m. that the driver had been taken to Olympic Medical Center by a family member. The driver had not been identified as of press deadline.

The vehicle was abandoned at the scene, the State Patrol said.

The collision knocked out power to the nearby neighborhood of Peregrine Lane and Kestrel Lane, just east of the scene.

Nicole Clark, communications manager with the Clallam County Public Utility District, said it was a small number of residents affected in the neighborhood. She said crews were at the site to flag traffic, repair the line and clean up, including a small oil spill likely from a downed transformer, until 5:30 a.m. Monday.
