Deputies seek information on Port Angeles business burglary

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information to help deputies track down those who pulled a door from its frame to burglarize a power equipment business just east of the Port Angeles city limits.

An audible alarm was activated at Port Angeles Power Equipment at 2624 E. Highway 101 at about 6 a.m. Monday, said Chief Deputy Brian King of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies and Port Angeles police arrived at the business within six minutes, King said Thursday.

They found the door wrenched open, conducted a thorough search and found no one in the building, King said.

“They were there a very, very short period of time,” King said.

Items stolen from the business are “worth less than a couple thousand dollars,” he added. Details about what was taken are not being released as part of the investigation.

Surveillance video shows a person backing a pick-up truck to the front of the business and a second person attaching a tow rope to the front glass and security doors.

“Once the tow rope was attached to the front doors, the operator of the vehicle drove forward, pulling the door from the door frame and thereby activating the audible burglar alarm,” King said.

The gender of the burglars was not obvious, according to King, and deputies are not sure that the two they see on the video were the only people involved.

The video shows the truck fleeing the scene south on Brooke Avenue and then turning east on Avis Street, King said.

The investigation is ongoing. Surveillance video is being analyzed by deputies.

Deputies have a handful of potential witnesses they are interviewing, but could use more information, King said.

Anyone with information on those responsible for the burglary are asked to call sheriff’s dispatch at 360-417-2459 and ask to speak with a deputy.
