PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking a man suspected of stealing guns and other items from a home west of Port Angeles,
Anthony W. Heckathorn, 48, is sought for arrest for investigation of first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, two counts of theft of a firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Detective Sgt. Eric Munger.
A 2004 conviction for assault in the third degree prevents him from owning or possessing firearms.
He is described as a white male, standing 6-feet-tall and weighing 170 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.
The stolen firearms have not been recovered, so he is considered armed and dangerous, the press release said.
On Monday, deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress on the 100 block of Evergreen Road, after a video surveillance system alerted the property caretaker of an intrusion, Munger said in a press release.
No one was there when deputies arrived, but video and still images taken by the surveillance system showed Anthony Heckathorn and his niece, Shayla A. Heckathorn, 29, arrived in her vehicle and leave the residence carrying items, the release said.
Items reported stolen include two firearms, a coin collection, jewelry, a silver serving set and tools, Munger said.
On Friday, Shayla Heckathorn was found by a surveillance team comprised of members of the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, Munger said.
She was taken into custody by Port Angeles police officers, interviewed by sheriff’s detectives and booked into the Clallam County jail.
“Shayla admitted that she and Anthony conspired to commit the burglary, and that the residence belonged to a relative who they knew would not be home at the time,” the press release said.
A search warrant was served on her vehicle and hotel room where some of the stolen items were recovered, it said.
A warrant was served at Anthony Heckathorn’s last known address but he was not there, Munger said.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts or the location of the guns or any of the other stolen property is urged to call 9-1-1.
