Deputies: Port Angeles homeowner holds burglary suspect at gunpoint

PORT ANGELES — A homeowner held a man who broke into his home through his children’s bedroom window at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Blake A. White, 19, of Port Angeles was booked into the Clallam County jail Sunday morning for investigation of residential burglary, two counts of malicious mischief and minor in possession of alcohol. He was listed on the jail roster as of Monday afternoon.

“The homeowner realized there was someone in his house and he armed himself and confronted the suspect,” said Brian King, chief criminal deputy.

At about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, White broke into the South Bean Road house through a bedroom window while two children were in bed, King said.

When White, who was unarmed, was discovered in the house, he fled back through the bedroom window and ran north on Bean Road to a neighbor’s yard and attempted to break into a shed, causing damage to the shed door, King said.

When deputies and officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect held at gunpoint by the first homeowner.

Deputies said White was intoxicated when they confronted him.

The case is being forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecutors Office for a formal charging decision.

King said it is rare for homeowners in Clallam County to stop suspected burglars in the act.
