PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend man has been booked into the Jefferson County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault following a Friday evening collision on U.S. Highway 101 east of Gardiner.
Mark A. Raney, 64, likely will have his first appearance at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Jefferson County Superior Court, county Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy said Saturday in a text message.
The State Patrol said drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
Jerry L. Sukert, 51, and Kory J. Telling Sukert, 46, both of Silverdale, were transported to Jefferson Healthcare hospital at about 7 p.m. Friday following the collision on 101 on the west side of Discovery Bay, according to a State Patrol press memo.
Jerry Sukert, the driver of a Kia Sportage compact SUV, was treated and discharged, a hospital spokesperson said Saturday. There was no record of passenger Kory Sukert at the hospital, according to the spokesperson.
The State Patrol said Raney’s vehicle, a Ford Explorer, was southbound at Milepost 279 near WorldMark Discovery Bay resort when it crossed the centerline at about 7 p.m. Friday, colliding with Sukert’s northbound vehicle.
Raney and the Sukerts were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
The State Patrol impounded both vehicles, which were destroyed.
