Saturday crash closes Center Road in Chimacum

CHIMACUM — A driver was arrested for drunken driving after a single-vehicle wreck on Center Road that closed the road for about an hour.

The driver, Jacob Savidge, 28, was towing a boat on a trailer behind his pickup about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Center Road, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Shane Stevenson.

Savidge said a deer jumped in front of his vehicle about halfway between Chimacum and state Highway 104, causing him to slam on his brakes, Stevenson reported.

The trailer, which didn’t have brakes, jack-knifed and crashed into the pickup, destroying the vehicle. Stevenson said the trailer was destroyed and the vessel was damaged.

A deputy noted alcohol on Savidge’s breath and conducted a field sobriety test, Stevenson said. Savidge blew reading of 0.228 for blood-alcohol content, more than double the legal limit of 0.08, Stevenson said.

Neither Savidge nor a passenger in the pickup were injured.
