Cold, wet man turns himself in after chase from Forks

FORKS — An Auburn man has been arrested for investigation of eluding a pursuing police vehicle, hit-and-run and reckless endangerment after leading Forks police on a chase from the city limit to Lake Pleasant and fleeing into the woods.

Aleksandr A. Rodygin, 27, was cold and wet when he called 9-1-1 to turn himself in at about 6:16 p.m. Thursday, said Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

A Forks police officer had attempted to stop Rodygin for investigation of reckless driving on the north side of the city at about 1:18 p.m. Thursday, King said.

Rodygin drove a blue BMW about eight miles on U.S. Highway 101 to Lake Pleasant county park with the officer in pursuit, striking a guard rail along the way, King said.

Rodygin fled into the woods and hid for about five hours, evading city police, Clallam County sheriff’s deputies and the State Patrol.

“Deputies contacted known associates of the individual and they convinced him to turn himself in,” King said.

Rodygin was arrested near West Lake Pleasant Road and Tyee Ridge Road.

He was treated for hypothermia at Forks Community Hospital before he was booked into the Clallam County jail.

Rodygin is being held without bail. He is expected to make his first appearance in Clallam County Superior Court on Monday.
