Burglaries investigated in Port Angeles, Forks

Business burglaries in downtown areas of Port Angeles and Forks had police busy Saturday morning.

Forks police responded to a break-in at South North Gardens Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant at 140 Sol Duc Way in downtown Forks, a Peninsula Communications dispatcher said.

“We’re doing OK,” restaurant Manager Tony Barragan said Saturday afternoon.

The burglar or burglars took “pocket change” but left kitchen equipment and other items alone, he said.

“They didn’t touch any of that,” he said.

“They were strictly going for the money.”

Barragan said it wasn’t the first time someone had broken into the restaurant.

“That’s why we don’t keep any money here no more,” he said.

Barragan said entry had been gained by popping open the door.

Forks Police Chief Mike Rowley could not be reached Saturday for comment.

Forks Police Officer Julie Goode did not return a call for comment.

Port Angeles police processed a burglary Saturday morning at Olympic Stained Glass at 112 N. Laurel St.

Someone broke the front window of the central downtown store and grabbed some display items, apparently without entering the business because the door was secure when the burglary was discovered Saturday morning, Port Angeles Police Officer Joshua Powless said.

‘Working with the victim’

“We’re working with the victim to discover what is missing,” he said.

Powless said it appeared that the display window had been struck with a stick or a bat that poked a hole in the pane without completely shattering it.

“It’s still technically a burglary,” he said.
