PORT ANGELES — Bail was set Monday for two people charged with possession of stolen vehicles after police made multiple arrests at Welcome Inn RV Park last week.
Superior Court Judge Lauren Erickson ordered Alex James Frost held on $50,000 bail and Travis D. McDaniel held on $20,000 bail.
Frost is charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and second-degree possessing stolen property, access device. McDaniel is charged with possessing a stolen vehicle.
Frost and McDaniel were two of three people arrested after Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team detectives conducting surveillance at the Welcome Inn RV Park in Port Angeles on Thursday said they spotted a stolen vehicle. A third person was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Officers with the Port Angeles Police Department, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Police Department, Department of Corrections, Border Patrol and state Fish & Wildlife detained several people.
While conducting surveillance, OPNET members saw Frost, who was wearing the same red shirt that he wore in court, in a stolen Ford Mustang, court papers say.
The Mustang was stolen from the Village Store in Quilcene on Sept. 7 after the owner left keys in the car.
The next day Shelton Police arrested Frost’s girlfriend in Shelton for investigation of possession of a stolen red Honda. Parked next to it was the Mustang, but the officer did not check at the time whether the Mustang was stolen, court papers say.
Court papers say officers contacting Frost could hear crashing and glass breaking as he fled to the northwest corner of the trailer.
In the stolen vehicle police say they found a syringe loaded with heroin, numerous tools, a wallet, five debit cards, a PayPal cash card and several other personal items. They also located about 20-30 cellphones and tablets.
Police, searching a second stolen vehicle at the trailer, found a prison TV with Frost’s name engraved in it.
Police also arrested McDaniel, who was on scene but not related to the pair of stolen vehicles found at the Welcome Inn.
He is accused of stealing a 1995 Jeep Wrangler on Sept. 9.
The owner of the Jeep told police he was contacted on social media that his Jeep was on its way to a gas station. He found the vehicle and demanded the occupants get out of the Jeep and he told them he was calling the police.
A passenger in the Jeep later told police that McDaniel was the driver.
