Authorities seek driver after 7-mile pursuit in Forks

FORKS — Authorities were searching on Thursday for the driver of a vehicle who led Forks police on a 7-mile pursuit on U.S. Highway 101.

A Clallam County sheriff’s deputy discovered the unoccupied BMW at Lake Pleasant county park after the pursuit, Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said.

The pursuit was initiated by a Forks police officer who had attempted to stop the driver for investigation of reckless driving on the north side of Forks at about 1:18 p.m., King said.

The driver headed north and east on U.S. Highway 101 toward Beaver with the officer in pursuit, King said.

The chase was discontinued at Milepost 200 near the turnout to Lake Pleasant Road at 1:25 p.m., King said.

King said did not know why the pursuit was terminated.

A West End deputy found the BMW later Thursday at the county park, King said.

The State Patrol helped the Sheriff’s Office search for the involved parties, said Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, State Patrol spokeswoman.
