PORT ANGELES — Tyler Scott Anderson has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing an elderly woman in the neck during a home invasion in west Port Angeles on Sunday.
Anderson, 39, was charged Wednesday with single counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, residential burglary and two counts of harassment.
The first-degree counts carried deadly weapon and vulnerable victim enhancements that could extend Anderson’s prison term, if he were to be convicted.
Anderson was being held Wednesday in the Clallam County jail on $250,000 bail.
Port Angeles police said Anderson entered a home on the 1600 block of West 11th Street and stabbed an 81-year-old woman in the neck with a serrated knife at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
The victim was listed in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center’s intensive care unit on Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Anderson was alleged to have followed another woman into a home on the 1800 block of West 11th Street. He was stopped by the woman’s husband, who was armed, at the front door, police said.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Simon Barnhart signed a Wednesday order for Anderson to have a competency evaluation in the jail.
Anderson’s microphone was muted during the court hearing when he interrupted the proceedings.
“I need to (expletive) take a shower,” Anderson said before Barnhart cut his microphone.
“I haven’t taken a shower in four days.”
A review hearing on the competency evaluation was set for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said they found the victim on the floor of the bathroom at her son’s residence.
She was not breathing at the time but could be heard coughing about 10 minutes later, Office Geraldine Smith wrote in the affidavit for probable cause.
Port Angeles Fire Department medics provided care for the victim before she was airlifted to Harborview.
Anderson was arrested Sunday near the corner of West 13th and South M streets.
He was found to be in possession of the victim’s cell phone, police said.
