PORT ANGELES — A Dec. 12 jury trial is set for a Sequim man who is charged with second-degree assault in connection with an armed standoff Oct. 15 in the Diamond Point area.
Other charges against Anthony Lee Lawrence are assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm — all class B felonies — and include enhanced circumstances because Lee allegedly used a firearm, and a previous conviction prevents him from owning any firearms, according to court documents.
He is being held in Clallam County jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond. A status hearing is set for Nov. 18.
Lee, 32, was arrested and booked Oct. 16 for investigation of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
He allegedly fired a handgun at a woman multiple times, struck her with it and kicked her in the head, according to court documents.
Superior Court Judge Brent Basden said at an Oct. 17 hearing that Lee attempted to shoot the victim not just when she was on the ground but when she was running away. The victim also suffered a broken eye bone and blackened eyes, he said.
No gunfire was exchanged between deputies and Lawrence, although one rubber bullet was fired in an attempt to get him to come out of his residence, a converted passenger bus.
Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King wrote in an email that gas was fired into the bus, but that didn’t result in Lee’s surrender.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Eric Munger said the State Patrol SWAT team was called to the scene based upon threat assessments conducted by deputies.
The woman was taken to Olympic Medical Center, according to court documents.
