PORT ANGELES — The arraignment of a woman charged with being in possession of a stolen Clallam Transit Bus has been delayed.
Hailey Weatherbie, 35, of Port Angeles was scheduled to enter a plea before Judge Dan Goodell in Mason County Superior Court in Shelton on Monday morning, but a motion was struck to remove the hearing from the docket. A new hearing date has not been set.
The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s office said Monday it had not yet received the documents it requested from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office so it was not ready to make a charging decision on the alleged theft of a motor vehicle.
The Sequim Police Department on Friday said it was still investigating the case.
At about 5 p.m. on Dec. 27, Clallam Transit notified law enforcement that a 29-foot diesel bus on layover at the Sequim Transit Center was missing and had been located via its GPS tracking device on state Highway 3 in Mason County. Shortly afterward, a deputy with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office pulled the bus over and arrested Weatherbie, who matched the description of a woman seen entering the bus, starting it and driving away.
Weatherbie was booked into Mason County Jail and released on her own recognizance.
Theft of a motor vehicle and being in possession of a stolen vehicle are both Class B felonies.
The tracking device also showed the bus going through the toll gate at the Bremerton Ferry Terminal but stopping short of driving onto a ferry. It turned around and continued south on state Highway 3 before it was stopped.
Clallam Transit General Manager Jim Fetzer told Peninsula Daily News on Wednesday the bus sustained no damage.
