PORT ANGELES — An alleged burglar who was arrested on multiple warrants last week is facing new charges in Clallam County Superior Court, prosecutors said.
Jonathon W. Heckathorn, 25, was arrested by Port Angeles Police Officer Luke Brown during a traffic stop on the 900 block of West Front Street last Thursday.
The Port Angeles man had a pair of $5,000 arrest warrants from two felony cases after failing to appear in court Feb. 15 and other misdemeanor warrants, police and court papers said.
“We also have two other residential burglary investigations that are going to result in additional charges,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney April King said in a Friday court hearing.
Heckathorn, who had been featured on the Q13 Fox television show “Washington’s Most Wanted,” was charged Oct. 24 with second-degree identity theft for allegedly taking a credit card from a Port Angeles-area residence and using it at the Sequim Walmart.
He was charged Dec. 21 with residential burglary, first-degree theft and third-degree malicious mischief for allegedly breaking into a Port Angeles residence and taking thousands of dollars’ worth of property, according to an affidavit for probable cause.
Heckathorn posted a $2,500 bail bond Dec. 27.
King on Friday requested a $20,000 bail for Heckathorn on both pending cases.
“He’s obviously demonstrated he’s not going to appear in court,” King said.
“And the state’s of the opinion that breaking into residences does raise community safety concerns, given how that could turn out.”
King added that there was a pending investigation into a suspicion that Heckathorn possessed stolen property when he was arrested Thursday.
Defense attorney Alex Stalker of Clallam Public Defender said he would reserve argument on conditions of release until he had a chance to speak with his client.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly granted the request to raise Heckathorn’s bail to $20,000 on both cases.
“Quite honestly, that was the number that I was thinking of as well,” Melly said.
“I think that’s reasonable on both cases.”
A resolve/reset hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
