PORT ANGELES — A court hearing for a fugitive who allegedly escaped from an Alabama prison and was caught in Port Angeles on Oct. 1 has been delayed because his attorney had not yet received his criminal records.
Dylan Keith Carroll, 24, is charged in Clallam County with first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and being a fugitive from justice in another state.
He is being held in the Clallam County jail on $100,000 bail.
Defense attorney Alex Stalker of Clallam Public Defender has said he has been having difficulties getting Carroll’s prior conviction records from other states to determine his client’s offender score, court documents said.
On Friday, a resolve/reset hearing was reset for Jan. 13. Carroll has a right to go to trial by Feb. 28.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Carroll was serving the first year of a 13-year prison sentence for an arson conviction when he escaped from a minimum-security center in Deatsville, Ala., on Sept. 23.
Carroll allegedly drove a stolen 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck to Forks and illegally possessed a stolen Glock 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
Deputies responded to a tip that Carroll was at a Forks coffee shop on the morning of Oct. 1, but the suspect had left before they arrived.
The wife of an Olympic National Park ranger reported seeing the pickup Carroll was driving just east of Port Angeles later that day.
Carroll was arrested in the parking lot of the Port Angeles Walmart Supercenter, deputies said.
