PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire Rescue has received a $176,496 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
According to a press release the four-year grant will be used to hire a part-time volunteer recruitment and retention officer.
Volunteer personnel account for 90 percent of the district’s responders and the new position will address issues in recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters and EMTs.
The district anticipates filling the position by the end of the year.
